Consultation for EMDR Clinicians Specializing in Complex Trauma and Dissociative Disorders

I specialize in assisting EMDR clinicians in developing confidence in their ability to conceptualize and utilize EMDR Therapy with more complex client presentations, supporting them in delivering the most effective treatment for their clients.

My consultation services are tailored specifically to the utilization of EMDR therapy with complex trauma and dissociative disorders. Drawing on the foundation of EMDR’s Adaptive Information Processing model and the Theory of Structural Dissociation of the Personality, I offer a comprehensive approach that fosters confidence and growth.

To facilitate a deeper exploration of the self and internal dynamics, I also incorporate the Meeting Place (Fraser's Dissociative Table Technique) which serves as a valuable tool in working with different aspects or parts of the client's internal experience.

Through consultation, clinicians will learn to refine their skills, deepen their understanding of the impact of trauma, and gain confidence in utilization of EMDR to deliver effective treatment to their clients.

“Kristen creates a safe and supportive space, and I value her spot-on insight and perspective. My effectiveness as a clinician has increased tremendously and I feel a renewed sense of excitement when I return to my clients with broader or deeper insight and approach.”

Cultivating a curious attitude is key to understanding complex trauma symptoms and client experiences. By remaining curious, we can explore the client’s unique perspective and experience leading to a deeper understanding of their needs and how to best address them.

Through collaborative exploration, we examine various conceptualizations and theories that may shed light on the client’s experience, to guide intervention planning, as well as identify reenactments, transference, and countertransference.

For therapists specializing in trauma work, connection and support are crucial. I am committed to creating a secure and supportive environment that empowers clinicians to integrate their learning and enhance their clinical confidence.

“As a Certified EMDR therapist who works with many clients with trauma related dissociation, I felt so alone in my journey as a therapist. Kristen told me that this work is too hard to do alone. This statement felt so validating and it helped me realize that I needed support and consultation for my difficult cases.”

I have been fortunate enough to have Kristen as my consultant for years. She has been a key component for the successful treatment of my complex clients with dissociation and much more! It's been so helpful for me to be able to rely on her consistent expertise; it is clear she has dedicated herself to learning and teaching others. I can count on sound and compassionate guidance for my clients, as well as myself as a trauma therapist. It is truly a privilege to work with Kristen and to be able to collaborate with her on all the complexities that present themselves in this work.

I highly recommend Kristen for expert consultation on complex cases. I have been a Consultee of hers for over a year now and her empathic and empowering approach has been so helpful. As a Certified EMDR therapist who works with many clients with trauma related dissociation, I felt so alone in my journey as a therapist. Kristen told me that this work is too hard to do alone. This statement felt so validating and it helped me realize that I needed support and consultation for my difficult cases. She is extremely knowledgeable in the field of trauma and dissociation and has a wealth of knowledge to share with her Consultees.

I began working with Kristen as my consultant after certifying in EMDR because I wanted to become a consultant myself. At that point in my EMDR journey, I still lacked the confidence and the knowledge to really put myself out there. I needed Kristen’s expertise in EMDR and in business building, and I also needed a lot of reassurance. Kristen is kind, compassionate, and a true professional. I have benefitted so much from working with her! Kristen has made a substantial difference in my overall EMDR experience, and I am forever in her debt.

- Debra Payne, PhD, LCSW / Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant-in-Training from Utah

My effectiveness as a clinician has increased tremendously and I feel a renewed sense of excitement when I return to my clients with broader or deeper insight and approach. Having access to a resource who provides the kind of skilled and responsive support that Kristen provides is a great comfort to me as a private practitioner.
